This penthouse was on one of the top floors of the Helmut Jahn tower building, a full height glass curtain wall opens dramatic views of the city to the north, east and south. The design team has been told that this is the only custom-designed unit in the building.
The rich palette materials used includes hardwood and stone. However, the real star of the space is the cream-colored lacquer millwork that extends from public spaces to private. Two strong curved gestures provide a dramatic flourish to the living room. A football shaped element separates the living space from a semi-private study, while incorporating a plasma television, desk, and storage. A complimentary curved screen frames the living area as one enters the unit and separates the living room from the kitchen.
According to the designer, the client, a German-American couple, has a strong appreciation for art and design. In addition to typical residential requirements, both husband and wife wanted semi-private workspaces. As a result, the three-bedroom condo has spaces that support individual and family activities.
